Planning your garden retreat
Size and layout
A chair, a small table and a bookcase fit in the smallest size below; add a worktable or a daybed and you want the next one up. Sizes are the ordered nominal sizes, so allow a little either way.
A partition in the Build Studio can set aside a little storage for materials.
Warmth, light and comfort
Our sheds and summer houses are supplied without wiring, plumbing, heating or insulation. Lighting, sockets and any heater should be fitted by a qualified electrician. A rug and good curtains go a long way in the meantime.
Toughened double glazing is an optional upgrade on any glazed panel in the Build Studio.
Planning permission
A garden retreat for your own use is normally an ordinary outbuilding under the permitted-development rules. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with your council first.

What is a she shed?
A garden building that is somebody’s own space: a reading room, a studio, a place to potter. It is the same building as any summer house, furnished to suit.
Can I have Georgian windows?
Yes. The Georgian summer house range comes with them, and the Build Studio has a Georgian window as a panel option.
Will it be warm in winter?
Our sheds and summer houses are supplied without wiring, plumbing, heating or insulation. It is a shelter rather than a heated room; plan any heater with a qualified installer.
Does it need painting?
Timber is tanalised UC3 with a 20-year anti-rot guarantee. If you want to leave it alone for decades, choose composite, which never needs painting.
