Wall thickness first. Most garden log cabins are 19mm or 28mm; a Total Cabin is 44mm. Thicker walls mean a more rigid building that holds its heat, which is the difference between a cabin you use in summer and one you can sit in through the winter.
Then the treatment. The timber is impregnated under pressure, so the preservative is driven deep into the wood instead of sitting on the surface. A traditional cabin arrives untreated and expects you to coat every face soon after assembly, then re-coat it as it weathers. This one does not.
And the roof, which is where most garden buildings give up. Ours is a 28mm tongue-and-groove deck finished in EPDM rubber, sloped with a 600mm overhang so rainwater is thrown clear of the walls and the doorway. EPDM is a single sheet rather than overlapping strips, so there are no seams to lift and nothing to re-felt. The floor is the same 28mm tongue-and-groove board — not the 19mm most cabins ship with — and the windows and doors are powder-coated aluminium, so they will not swell, stick or need painting.

The walls are 44mm solid timber, roughly double a typical 19mm or 28mm cabin, so it holds its heat and feels like a room rather than a garden store. Where it goes further than a traditional log cabin is the roof, the floor and the glazing: a 28mm tongue-and-groove deck under EPDM rubber rather than felt, the same 28mm boards underfoot, and powder-coated aluminium windows and doors instead of softwood.
The preservative is forced deep into the timber under pressure rather than brushed or dipped onto the surface. It does not wash out and it does not need redoing — which is the main practical difference from a standard log cabin, where you are expected to treat every face after assembly and re-coat it as it weathers.
No. That is the point of the impregnation. A traditional log cabin arrives untreated and wants a full treatment soon after assembly; a Total Cabin does not.
Six to eight weeks from order. These are made to order and shipped in on a full container, which is why the lead time is longer than the two to three days our own workshop buildings take. Delivery to the UK mainland is free.
