Are summer houses usable year-round?
A suitable base, pressure-treated cladding and the breathable membrane upgrade, free in the sale, help protect against the weather and manage moisture. Keep your workshop ventilated, especially when storing wet equipment. For winter working comfort, most customers add insulation and a small heater.
Do I need planning permission for a summer house?
Usually not — most garden buildings under 2.5m eaves height sit within permitted development. Our planning guide walks through the exceptions.
What maintenance does a timber summer house need?
The timber is tanalised so rot protection is built in — an occasional coat of exterior paint or treatment keeps the colour fresh. Or go composite and skip maintenance entirely.
