Why we build with this

We added composite for the customer who never wants to pick up a paintbrush. The board is wood-plastic composite coloured all the way through, so a knock shows the same colour underneath instead of a pale scratch, and it simply never needs treating. It's the lowest-maintenance building we make, which is why it carries our longest warranty.

UV rating & colour fading

Built to keep its colour

Straight answer: all composite fades a little — the quality of the cladding decides how much. Ours is UV-rated to hold its colour within 10% over 10 years, because the UV stabilisers are mixed through the board when it's made — not a coating that sunlight can wear off.

The rated limit: no more than a 10% colour shift by year ten — a change you'd need the two side by side to spot.

UV stabilisers are blended into the composite at manufacture, so protection is part of the board itself.

Cheaper boards skip or skimp the stabiliser package — that's the chalky, grey-washed composite you may have seen. Colour-through material plus the stabiliser mix is why ours also carries a 30-year manufacturer warranty.
