Maintenance guide
Tanalised timber needs minimal upkeep — but a few simple checks each season will keep your building looking sharp and lasting for decades. (Composite buildings? Zero maintenance — a rinse now and then is plenty.)
The 5-minute monthly check
- Roof clear of debris
- No standing water around the base
- Door opens & closes smoothly
- No loose screws or bolts
- Treatment looks even & matte
- No condensation inside on dry days
Treatment & re-painting
Every timber building arrives fully tanalised — pressure-treated against rot and insects from the inside out. You don't need to paint it, but a colour treatment every 2–3 years extends the cosmetic life dramatically.
We recommend our own Timber Eco Shield, colour-matched to your cladding. One coat per side, applied on a dry day above 10°C.

Seasonal checklist
Spring
- •Inspect panels for winter damage
- •Clear leaves and debris from the roof (and gutters, if fitted)
- •Check hinges and locks — lubricate if stiff
- •Touch up treatment chips before warm weather
Summer
- •Apply a fresh coat of Timber Eco Shield if the treatment looks faded
- •Ventilate on dry days to keep condensation down
- •Check an EPDM roof for debris or punctures
- •Inspect timber for insects (rare on tanalised timber)
Autumn
- •Clear leaves from around the base to prevent damp
- •Re-tighten any loosened external screws
- •Final treatment coat before winter if needed
- •Check felt or EPDM is fully sealed at the edges
Winter
- •Brush heavy snow off the roof
- •Keep doors closed in storms; check seals after high winds
- •Don’t lean items against the cladding (it can warp)
- •Inspect glazing for frost damage
